Its chemical name is 2-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine-2-ylcarbamoylsulfamoyl)-N,N-dimethylnicotinamide, and it is a highly effective, broad-spectrum, low-toxicity, low-residue, systemic, conductive sulfonylurea herbicide. It is rapidly absorbed through the stems, leaves, and roots of plants, and is quickly conducted within the xylem and phloem. It primarily works by inhibiting the activity of acetolactate synthase in plants, thereby blocking the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids (such as valine, leucine, and isoleucine), which in turn interferes with normal cell division and growth, leading to the cessation of weed growth and ultimate death. It is effective in controlling a variety of weeds in corn fields, including annual gramineous weeds and broad-leaved weeds such as barnyard grass, green foxtail, wild oats, and redroot amaranth.
